  • About The Role

  • Birmingham Airport is on an exciting journey to transform the way we manage and understand our energy use as we work toward achieving net zero carbon by 2033. If you’re passionate about sustainability, fascinated by data and metering systems, and motivated by making a measurable environmental impact, this role puts you right at the heart of that mission.

As a Metering Engineer, you’ll join a collaborative Sustainability team driving a real‑time metering revolution across the airport. You’ll work hands‑on with electrical meters, dataloggers, and energy management systems, helping us build a smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable future for BHX.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Install, repair, remove, and commission electric meters and dataloggers across the airport’s energy management system.
    • Support the development and implementation of a metering asset register, asset tagging, and long‑term asset management strategy.
    • Identify and deliver energy‑saving initiatives through regular energy reviews and best‑practice sharing.
    • Conduct ongoing maintenance, quality checks, and compliance assessments for all BHX meters, including recharge meters.
    • Manage energy and water management software platforms and associated maintenance contracts.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for metering queries and ensure capital projects follow an effective metering strategy.

    Key Requirements

    • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation (2365‑03) or equivalent Level 3 electrical qualification, plus 18th Edition BS7671 certification.
    • Experience in LV electrical installations, repairs, and fault‑finding.
    • Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and PC‑based diagnostic systems.
    • Full UK driving licence.
    • Experience with commercial electrical metering, BMS, Modbus, or energy management systems (desirable).
    • HNC/HND or equivalent in electrical engineering (desirable).

    What We Offer

    • Full training in meter installation, repairs, commissioning, and integration with our energy management system (including LV AP course during probation).
    • A supportive, collaborative team environment.
    • Opportunities to contribute to meaningful sustainability initiatives with real‑world impact.
    • The chance to directly influence energy efficiency and carbon‑reduction outcomes.
    • Professional development and growth as you build specialist technical expertise.
