Systems Accountant

Birmingham Airport is seeking a proactive and detail driven Systems Accountant that will be responsible for maintaining and developing core finance systems, ensuring data accuracy, enabling high‑quality reporting and driving system‑led improvements across the Finance function. You will support ongoing system upgrades, enhance reporting structures and champion best practice in financial data management.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as primary owner of finance systems, ensuring they meet the needs of the Finance team and wider business.
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial data across all core systems.
• Develop and maintain system structures including Chart of Accounts, cost centres, projects and reporting hierarchies.
• Improve reporting efficiency through system‑led solutions and reduced manual workarounds.
• Strengthen system controls to support governance, audit and compliance requirements.
• Provide system expertise and user support including training, documentation and stakeholder guidance.

Experience Required

• Degree‑level education in Finance, Accounting, Business or a numerate/analytical discipline.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or relevant experience.
• Strong financial systems experience including general ledger structures and management reporting.
• Understanding of data integration such as SQL queries and API‑driven interfaces.
• Knowledge of Chart of Accounts design and financial data structures.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑finance stakeholders.
