  • About The Role

  • The Emergency Planning Officer will work closely with the Business Continuity Manager and Head of Emergency Planning to ensure Birmingham Airport maintains robust emergency preparedness arrangements. You will coordinate planning activities, support multi‑agency collaboration, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Aerodrome Emergency Plan.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support compliance with regulatory requirements including AMC 139/2014 and the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
    • Provide expert advice to departments on emergency planning and business continuity arrangements.
    • Ensure stakeholder groups maintain up‑to‑date emergency plans to manage incidents and support rapid recovery.
    • Manage and maintain the Crisis Management SharePoint site and associated documentation.
    • Prepare, review, and update emergency planning documents, procedures, and checklists.
    • Plan and deliver emergency preparedness training, modular testing, and multi‑agency exercises.

    Experience Required

    • Proven experience in business continuity, risk management, or emergency planning, ideally within aviation, transport, or critical infrastructure.
    • Experience managing continuity programmes across complex environments with 1,000+ employees or multiple operational units.
    • Strong knowledge of ICAO and CAA regulatory requirements relating to emergency preparedness.
    • Experience leading crisis simulations and coordinating multi‑agency responses.
    • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including engagement with emergency services and government agencies.
    • Professional certification in Emergency Planning (or working towards).

    Additional Duties

    • Liaise with Category 1 responders and partner agencies to support multi‑agency planning and exercising.
    • Lead post‑incident debriefs, gather evidence, and manage action tracking.
    • Maintain awareness of legislative changes and update documentation accordingly.
    • Coordinate the on‑call rota for IMC‑trained managers and provide deputy cover when required.
    • Represent Birmingham Airport at Local Resilience Forum Tactical Command Group meetings.
    • Undertake additional duties aligned with the grading of the role as required.

    Candidate Requirements

    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence briefing senior leaders.
    • Willingness to undertake developmental training to support organisational needs.
    • Ability to work remotely when required to support interoperability with external partners.
    • Full UK driving licence.
    • Ability to prioritise workloads and remain calm under pressure.
    • Flexibility to support operations during unforeseen events.
    • Reside within 1 hour commute to meet emergency response time requirements
